To confidently provide a complete and trustworthy picture of performance for the new HL/Skin range, the full range went through extensive testing:
- 14 clinical trials were run to check both safety and visible results across the range.
- Over 600 participants with different skin types, ethnicities, and lifestyles tried the products.
- More than 4,000 before and after images were captured and analysed using high tech skin imaging.
- The tests combined what people actually felt and saw on their own skin (consumer perception result) with high-tech skin testing technologies to measure results more objectively.
- This 360° testing approach means every product is designed not just to feel great, but to be shown effective while meeting our strict ethical and scientific standards.
Our suite of technologies included:
- Expert Clinical Grading:Â Independent expert graders assessed visible improvements in skin appearance at baseline (what their skin looks like on day 0), and after a certain period of time of product use in studies.
- Colourimetry (Chroma Meter® CR 400): Used to quantify changes in skin luminance, skin tone homogeneity and pigmentation levels through precise measurement. The Chroma Meter® CR 400 has a pulse xenon lamp that emits a pulsed light on the skin, which is reflected and collected by a photosensitive cell.
- PRIMOS® CR: An advanced 3D imaging technology that captures the skin’s surface in incredible detail — down to the micron-level detail (that’s onethousandth of a millimetre). It allows scientists to measure changes in wrinkle depth, volume, and skin texture, showing exactly how the skin improves in smoothness and refinement over time.
- VISIA® CR Imaging: Uses advanced, highresolution photography under carefully controlled lighting to capture detailed images of the skin. This technology analyses key features — including pores, spots, fine lines, and wrinkles — to track visible improvements over time. By evaluating changes in visible skin characteristics over time, it delivers precise, datadriven evidence of improvements in the skin’s appearance. The skin looks healthier and more refined.
- Corneometer® CM 825: Measured epidermal hydration levels, allowing quantitative evaluation of skin moisture retention.
- Tewameter® TM 300: Monitored transepidermal water loss (TEWL) to assess skin barrier integrity.
- Cutometer® Dual MPA 580: Measured viscoelastic properties to evaluate improvements in skin firmness and elasticity.
- Sebumeter® SM 815 Device: Used to accurately measure the sebum (oil) level on the skin surface. It works by pressing a special tape against the skin, which becomes transparent based on the amount of sebum present. The tape is then analysed by a photocell that measures light transmission, providing an objective and reproducible sebum content value. This device is widely used in dermatological research and cosmetic product testing to assess oiliness and the effectiveness of sebum-controlling formulations.
